The mandatory Student Transportation Fee, approved by the USC Board of Trustees in 2023, is assessed similarly to USC ‘s other mandatory fees. It supports the ongoing operations of Transportation support services offered to the entire campus community, including the Lyft program, USC Buses, alternate transit programs, etc.

If you are a graduate or undergraduate student, enrolled in at least one class unit during a given semester, that is scheduled in ANY session that has ANY on-campus component in Los Angeles (including hybrid courses, those scheduled by your department with a location as “OFFICE,” if you have been given special disposition to take the class remotely even though it’s scheduled in person, etc.), you will be assessed the fee. Use of any or all of the services is not a component in whether or not the fee is assessed; it is a mandatory University fee, linked to enrollment.

We actively work with the USC Registrar’s office to identify courses that may be set up in incorrect sessions; if your class is truly a 100% online course (e.g., study abroad) but is set up incorrectly in the Student Information System (SIS), we cannot change that. Please have your Academic Department work with the USC Registrar’s Office directly to get it fixed. If the course is successfully changed in SIS, the fee will drop off automatically.

WAIVER REQUESTS FOR ACTIVE USC EMPLOYEES (ONLY)

The only exception to this fee allowed by the USC Board of Trustees is for active USC Employees (confirmed through USC Workday) who are also taking classes. USC students who also happen to be employed, in any capacity, are NOT considered “USC Employees” for the purpose of a fee waiver. Your primary classification in USC Workday is the sole determinant of employee status for the purpose of a waiver request.

If you are a USC employee as described above, please complete this online form. Requests submitted by anyone NOT primarily classified in USC Workday as an employee will not be reviewed.

As a reminder, to avoid duplicate actions due to class drops/adds, we will only process waiver applications AFTER the USC drop/add deadline for the given semester (typically the end of week 3; refer to the official Schedule of Classes for the semester in question for the exact date). Please pay your fee bill, in full, on time, to avoid USC late settlement fees.
